Thank you for a wonderful year

May 6th was Volunteer Appreciation Sunday at First Pres. The many musicians of our church were among those who were recognized and deservedly so. A change in schedule has made that day our last time together singing for this program year. Thank you for the generous commitment of time that you have shared with your church over the past year. We will all look forward to resuming again on Wednesday, September 5 after a safe and restful summer. Peace to you all.

Culminating Event on May 6th

We have had a tremendously successful year bringing composer-in-residence Zeb Highben's music to life from the printed page. His works have been thoughtful and intentional; always manageable yet interesting and appealing. On Sunday, May 6 we are presenting an evensong service featuring all of the pieces he composed for us and Trinity-Moorhead with an appearance at both churches in the morning to promote the evening concert. It will be the culminating event of a successful year of work.

Preparing for Holy Week and Easter

We have two Wednesday evening rehearsals planned to help us prepare for music from Palm Sunday through Easter morning. Join us for 6:45pm rehearsal on Wednesdays, March 28 and April 4.

We will sing for Maundy Thursday worship on April 5. Call time 6pm.

Zeb Highben's new piece works particularly well for Good Friday. Since we traditionally have not had a Good Friday service, we will be joining the choir of Trinity Lutheran at their 7:00pm Tenebrae service on April 6.

Two services on Easter morning at 9:00 and 11:00. Call time 8am. Breakfast in between services.

Come and make these worship experiences significantly more special by contributing with your talents.

Planning for This Sunday, March 11

This has been a rather lean season for our choir as many of us have been traveling. In an effort to be able to plan for this week, we would like to ask each choir member to share your plan to either be or not be at rehearsal/worship this Sunday through the use of a Doodle poll.

Doodle is a free site that doesn't require any registration on your part. If you would click below to be directed to the site, then highlight the button/dot below the date and time, and type your first name and last initial this would help us immensely. If it works well, we will consider doing this on a weekly basis.

Go ahead...Doodle all you want! (click here)

Thank you for your help in this.

Every day, every hour

Our anthem this week opens with the phrase, "I will sing of God's mercies every day, every hour..."

The season of Epiphany's focus on light comes to a close this Sunday. The adult and 7-12 choirs will be sharing the anthem "He Never Failed Me Yet," focusing on Christ's faithful care and mercy. It's a fitting reminder as we move into the season of Lent next week.

Join us for this stirring piece of music. Adults, youth, piano, bass, drums...it's going to be thrilling!

Dazzling

Join us this Sunday as we experience Charles Wood's beautiful anthem How Dazzling Fair (click title to see the music).

The poetry of this anthem is lovely but archaic. The phrase constructions are often tangling to the tongue. In preparation for Sunday, take a few moments and read the poetry aloud. And enjoy the beauty of it and it's meaning.

How dazzling fair art thou, my Life, my Light!
How comely is thy countenance, how bright!
Sun uncreate, how keen is the enjoyment
That Saints and Angels find in thine employment!
In view thereof sing I, by day and night,
How dazzling fair art thou, my Life my Light!

My soul, O Lord, is sore athirst for thee:
My heart doth yearn thy seemly face to see:
Dim is my sight; but one ray of thy kindness
Should quickly skill to cure mine eyes of blindness:
Meanwhile my song and my complaint shall be,
“My soul, O Lord, is sore a thirst for thee.”

When shall I come to hear that Angel song?
Nay, swell the chorus of the heav'nly throng?
Then join the noble company of Sages,
Who chaunt thee Lauds through everlasting ages?
Now ev'ry day methinks and all day long,
“When shall I come to hear that Angel song?”

Amen.

New Year, New Time, New Schedule

New, new, new!

The adult choir resumes this Sunday, January 8.

Rehearsal time is now at 9:00am, due to our new worship schedule. We are already losing 15 minutes of precious rehearsal time from what we had last year. Let's plan to begin warmups promptly at 9am.

The full singing schedule is listed to the left so that you may include them in your calendar.

It's going to be a new adventure!

Here is a glance at this Sunday's anthem:
